Lieve Jansen - President

LIEVE JANSEN, mezzo, has a wide-ranging repertoire, which includes works from the baroque to contemporary music. She gave recitals and concerts not only in her home country but also in different European countries and the Phillipines.

She has been invited as guest soloist by the Festival of Flanders, the Festival of Wallonia (Europa Cantat), the Festival of San Sebastian (Spain), the Festival des Arcs (France), the Religious Music Festival (the Netherlands), The contemporary opera festival (Germany) and the world-renowned “Bamboo Organ Festival” (The Plilippines).

Her great love of the recital repertoire has enabled her to work with such emminent accompanists as Michel Dalberto and Geoffrey Parsons, with whom she gave very succesful song recitals in France during the Festival des Arcs. On one such occasion a critic wrote of her in the international music magazine “Le monde de la Musique”: “Lieve Jansen, the great revelation of the “Noël Musical” at Les Arcs....

She has performed at Brussels, Antwerp and Liège Opera Houses, she sang the leading role in Bizet’s Carmen in The Netherlands and she played Popova in W. Walton’s “The Bear”in Ghent.

Many of her concerts and recitals have been broadcasted by Belgian and Dutch National Radio and Television and she recorded with different record labels.

Between 1985 and 2015 she was teaching at the Luca Arts institute in Leuven (Belgium) and has given public masterclasses in France (with Noelle Barker and Geoffrey Parsons), in the Netherlands, Spain, Finland, Poland, Latvia, Italy and Portugal.

She founded the vocal quartet “Consonanza” with whom she gave regular chamber music recitals and has founded and conducted for 15 years the female chamber choir “Freya”.

Lieve Jansen worked with young talented singers as a coach and also as stage manager.

She staged for “Jeugd en Muziek” Brussels, “Dido and Aeneas” (Purcell), “Prima la Musica, poi le Parole” (Salieri), “Der Schauspieldirektor” (Mozart) and scenes from “Le Nozze di Figaro”, “Cosi fan Tutte”, “Ascanio in Alba” (Mozart) and “Hänsel und Gretel” (Humperdinck).

She was promoting (2006-2009) the project “In Tränen unendlicher Lust”, a multidiscipline research project with singers from the Luca Arts school Leuven (students and teachers) and plastic artists (video art) (Luca arts school Saint Lucas Gent) in co-operation with Prof. Wivine Decoster of the dept. Logopedic en Audiologic Sciences Labo ExpORL - dept. Neurosciences of the university Leuven.

Between 2010 and 2015 was leading the Scenic Liedclass for singers and pianists, together with piano coach Michel Stas and movement coach Marijke Van Heddeghem.

As a voice researcher she was involved in different research items as working with a spectrogram, Passavant’s wall (about resonance), the flow-ball and others. She participates and gives presentations in voice conferences and symposiums as Pas, Pevoc and others.

Since her retirement in 2015 she is mostly involved in projects about vocal pedagogy and she is invited to give Masterclasses and presentations about the singing voice.

Since 2012 she is president and co-founder of Evta-Be, the Belgian association of the European Umbrella association EVTA (European Voice Teachers Association)
